HUNDREDS of workers were set to strike on the Metro in Newcastle this weekend over bosses delaying the introduction of a 35-hour week.
Almost 90 percent of members of the RMT union, which represents 300 drivers, train operators and manual workers, voted for action. Some 170 members of the Amicus union, which represents maintenance, depot, and signal and overhead line workers, will also strike. They voted by five to one for action.
The first 24-hour strike starts on Friday of this week at 9pm. A 48-hour stoppage will begin at 9pm on Wednesday 17 December.
