Civil service worker sacked for petition

Issue No. 2167

Jobcentre Plus worker Mark Anthony France has been sacked for organising a petition calling on his local MP Julie Kirkbride, who has been mired in the expenses scandal, to stand down.

The Department for Work and Pensions has allowed fascist British National Party members Frank Swaine and Daniel Thorlby to stand as candidates in local elections.

But bosses seem determined to clamp down on free speech for those, like Mark, known to be on the left and activists in the civil service workers’ PCS union.
