Deal but no deal for airport workers

Issue No. 2167

Baggage handlers at Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester airports last week voted to strike after their employer, Swissport, reneged on a two-year pay deal.

However, industrial action at the airport has been postponed while the Unite union pursues legal advice with its solicitors.

A spokesman for the Unite union, which represents 600 workers at the three airports, says the pay deal was a contractual agreement and the union is now consulting considering legal action.

The deal would have given workers a 2.75 percent pay rise this year.
