Massive vote for action at Barnsley college

Issue No. 2169

Lecturers in the UCU union at Barnsley College are set to strike on Thursday of this week after a 76 percent vote for action.

Workers are angry at planned cuts and restructuring at the college that would downgrade lecturers’ job titles and pay grades.

“Lecturers are angry at the way the college is treating its teaching force,” said Dave Gibson, the UCU branch secretary at the college. “The most the new grades of lecturer can earn is nearly £13,000 less than an experienced lecturer. Yet they are doing the same job.”
