Yasmin, from Southwark, south London, is an unemployed worker. She spoke to Socialist Worker about why she is planning to protest against Labour.
She said, “I’m going to go to the protest even though it’s difficult to afford a ticket, especially when they keep messing with my benefits.
“When you go to the job centre they blame you for everything, even though it’s the government’s fault and it’s the economy.
“Then they try to push you into massively underpaid jobs where you’d end up with very little in your pocket each week once you’ve paid your rent, council tax and the rest of it.
“They just want us to work like slaves – work like a machine for them. They don’t care about people or about how you’re going to cope.
“If you refuse then they force you onto these bullshit training courses. It’s pointless – you can’t get a job even if you’ve got the qualifications.
“The choice now is no work or work that pays so little that you can’t live on it. I took one of those jobs for a while but came out of it with nothing but huge debts.
“It’s so stressful to live like this. It’s not fair.
“That’s why I’m going to the protest.”
