Steel producer Corus has put been forced to put back the closure of its final salary pension scheme to new members following threats of strike action.

The U-turn comes after a national multi-union meeting in London where delegates unanimously voted to fight to defend pensions through industrial action, including strike action.

The company still intends to close the scheme to new starters but has put the date back a month to allow further discussion.

The unions have committed to continuing with the ballot for industrial action while the talks are ongoing.
