Jim Board campaign continues

by Siân Ruddick
Issue No. 2171

Despite his reinstatement last week, the threat of disciplinary action continues to hang over Doncaster council worker Jim Board.

Jim, who is branch secretary of Doncaster Unison, was suspended after he gave an interview to Channel 4 about two brothers aged 10 and 12 who admitted beating two boys in a shocking attack in the Edlington area, near Doncaster.

Many believe that the council and right wing English Democrat mayor Peter Davies want to undermine the union.

Jim has returned to the Unison office while council officials have confirmed there will be a disciplinary process.

Trade unionists are demanding that no action is taken against Jim for speaking to Channel 4. If he is disciplined, Unison’s support for an immediate strike ballot needs to be turned into reality.

There will be a demonstration in support of Jim in Doncaster on Saturday 10 October at 10.30am from the Mansion House.

As many people as possible should attend and send solidarity, support in order to show the strength of feeling over this issue.

Email messages of support to the branch at doncaster@unison.wanadoo.co.uk or write to Doncaster Unison, Hall Cross House, 1 South Parade, Doncaster DN1 2DY
