Labour pressure groups think to the right

Issue No. 2171

Labour’s pressure groups are looking to make new and strange alliances.

So the Blairite pressure group Progress had a joint event with the Lib Dems’ pro‑market Centre Forum lobby group.

The leftish Compass group held a joint meeting with the Lib Dems’ apparently more radical Social Liberal Forum.

Labour’s looming defeat means that some are looking to find new allies on the right.

As Neal Lawson, the head of Compass, puts it, “A strong and enduring relationship is being forged between like-minded people at the roots of Labour and the Lib Dems.”
