The Tories showed their more sinister side through the European allies they invited to their conference.
Michal Kaminski is a Polish MEP and leader of the Tories’ new European Conservative and Reformist grouping in the European parliament. He is notorious for his homophobia, antisemitism and nationalism.
Kaminski was a member of the neo-Nazi National Rebirth of Poland (NOP) in the 1980s. He is now a member of Poland’s Law and Justice Party, which has tried to ban gay pride marches.
As recently as 2001 Kaminski campaigned against the Polish prime minister’s apology for the Jedwabne atrocity, where 1,600 Jews were burnt alive in July 1941.
He last came to Britain to visit Chilean dictator Pinochet in 1999. But this week he came to address the Tory party conference.
The Tories’ decision to unite with him is a sop to the nasty right wingers who still form the party’s base.
