Construction site strike

Issue No. 2173

Some 200 construction workers at the Heerema offshore fabrication yard in Hartlepool walked out on unofficial strike on Monday of this week in a dispute over union recognition.

One picketing worker said, “All we want is for the Unite union to be recognised so they can take part in pay talks and we don’t see why that can’t happen.

“So far this is only one day of action and we will wait and see what takes place after this.”

Heerema designs and constructs offshore facilities for the global oil and gas industry.
