Candidates backed by STA in NUT elections

Issue No. 2173

Several key elections are coming up in the NUT teachers’ union. The first is for election of national officers – two vice-presidents, treasurer and examiners of accounts.

The Socialist Teachers Alliance (STA), which Socialist Worker supporters are part of, is backing Nina Franklin and Ken Cridland for vice-presidents, Ian Murch for treasurer and Alyson Palmer for examiner of accounts.

Ballot papers will be sent to members from 28 October. The ballot closes on 18 November.

Elections for the deputy general secretary will take place in January – but the closing date for union branches to make nominations is 2 December.

The STA is campaigning for Kevin Courtney to be deputy general secretary and STA members should fight for their branches to nominate him.
