Neath tenants reject homes sell-off

Issue No. 2174

Tenants at a Defend Council Housing meeting in Seven Sisters, Neath, last week voted unanimously to oppose the plan by the Neath Port Talbot Council to transfer their homes to a private housing company, NPT Homes Ltd.

The vote was taken at the end of the meeting after councillors Martyn Peters and Paul Lynch criticised the stock transfer scheme, arguing it was designed to privatise the 9,300 council homes.

Several tenants urged local independent councillor Steve Hunt to oppose stock transfer and after the vote he agreed to voice his deepening concerns about stock transfer and the issue of privatisation.

Further meetings are planned in other areas.
