Postal workers are seething after the Labour government gave its full backing to Royal Mail bosses in this fight.
Lord Peter Mandelson has led a chorus of ministers attacking the union for daring to stand up to the bullies.
Now many postal workers are demanding that the leaders of the CWU union enact the union’s policy to ballot on continued affiliation to Labour.
Sarah Hewitt, a union rep in Doncaster, is one of them.
“I’m sickened by the way Labour is attacking us for standing up for jobs and decent conditions. They’ve betrayed us,” she told Socialist Worker.
“Everyone in my office feels the same way, especially after Royal Mail’s announcement that it wants 30,000 casuals to break the strike.
“Mandelson talks just like a Tory, so why should he get any of our money? A vote on whether we should carry on funding them cannot come fast enough.”
