Nick Griffin humiliated by Scottish anti-fascists

Issue No. 2175

Nazi Nick Griffin narrowly dodged a hail of eggs as he scurried in the back door of a local radio station in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, yesterday.

Unite Against Fascism (UAF) activists gathered outside the offices of the L107 commercial radio station in Hamilton to protest against an interview with the Griffin, the leader of the fascist British National Party (BNP).

Griffin was in the area to support the BNP’s Glasgow North East by-election campaign.

Griffin needed police protection and quick feet to get in by the back door of the radio station. Police reinforcements were brought in to get him out again.

The radio station chief admitted the decision to have Griffin on was “commercial suicide” as it emerged several advertisers were to pull their funding, and over 50 local people emailed to say they would never listen to the station again.

Later Glasgow UAF took over the centre of Springburn, in the North East constituency, dishing out hundreds of leaflets and signing people up to the group.

This meant a humiliating retreat for Griffin as he failed to do his planned walkabout in the area, instead retreating into a closed meeting outside the constituency.

Anti-fascists will continue to build roots in the Springburn area and work to isolate the Nazis and ensure a tiny vote for the BNP.

UAF activists are also gearing up for 14 November, when they will confront the racist thugs of the Scottish Defence League, the official off-shoot of the English Defence League.
