Civil service workers discuss attacks in DWP

Issue No. 2176

Leaders of the PCS civil service workers’ union in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) were to hold an emergency meeting this week to discuss attacks on their members.

DWP management wants to compulsorily transfer 5,000 staff into call centres, which are known as contact centres.

This will affect workers in ten benefit centres that are set to become telephone-only sites and four other sites where a large proportion will move into these conditions.

This is a serious attack on workers’ conditions. The union’s group executive committee will discuss balloting the workers for strikes over the issue.
