Socialist Worker

We should come first

by Paul Garraway, secretary, CWU South Central No 1 branch
Issue No. 2176

‘Chancellor Alastair Darling found another £40 billion to hand over to the banks this week.

That’s on top of the £140 billion that he’s already given these wolves. Yet I have read that free school nursery places are under threat because there’s no money.

As a parent I’ll be expected to pay extra.

Darling refuses to help end the lack of funds in the post’s pension scheme, which was caused by management of what’s a public company.

Hundreds of thousands of workers have paid into final salary pension schemes that are being ripped up.

Pensions and nurseries should come before bankers.

But for Gordon Brown and Darling it’s exactly the other way round.’
