Protesting to save Thistle Street nursery

Issue No. 2178

The Thistle Street nursery at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies is due to be axed. It’s baby room was shut down in September and 19 jobs remain under threat.

Last week nursery workers, who are members of the Unison union, lobbied the Nautical Colleges’ graduation ceremony in the Royal Concert Hall.

They were joined by other union members and parents, many of who brought along their children who had spent the day making placards.

The 100 strong protest got a good reception from students and their guests who were attending the graduation.
