Hewlett Packard vote over cuts

Issue No. 2178

More than 1,000 members of the PCS civil service workers’ union at the EDS Hewlett Packard company are balloting for action over job losses and pay.

Hewlett Packard took over EDS in August 2008. Some 3,400 jobs have been axed since then and other workers have faced a pay freeze and voluntary pay cuts. A further 1,000 job losses are planned for the first half of next year.

The ballot runs until 30 November.

Those being balloted work mainly on IT contracts for the Department for Work and Pensions at sites including Newcastle, Washington, Preston and the Fylde Coast.
