NATIONAL UNION of Journalists members at the Birmingham Post and Mail are working to contract in protest at threatened redundancies.

The company wants to cut jobs despite making profits of more than £32 million last year.

The firm tried to discipline the NUJ union rep Chris Morely in the run-up to the dispute over an e-mail he sent to union members on the papers.

The firm was forced to back down over that move after NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear took up the case.
