Barnsley strikes off for talks

Issue No. 2180

Lecturers in the UCU union at Barnsley college have suspended planned strike action after college management agreed to negotiate over proposed changes to job descriptions that would lower lecturers’ grades and pay.

Management wanted to introduce “associate teacher” roles and force six existing lecturers to accept this new, lower grade or lose their jobs.

Workers took several days of solid strike action against the plans that had widespread support from local and national trade unionists.

Talks are set to begin on Thursday of this week.
