AROUND 150 bin workers in north Lanarkshire in Scotland struck on Friday of last week. They are set to escalate strike action after council chiefs hired scab labour.
The one-day stoppage was the first by these workers for over a decade.
Alex McLuckie, of the GMB union, said, 'The council has brought in agency workers to do the work of strikers. My members are angry, and strike action may escalate in future.'
Around 175 bin workers are taking industrial action in protest over council threats to impose new terms and conditions. GMB members are also on overtime ban.
This hits the service hard because many rounds cannot be completed unless workers go over their official set time.
