'LEAVE THE country or I'll snatch your children.' That was the threat this week from home secretary David Blunkett to refugees in Britain. He wants to rob parents of their children and their meagre benefits to force refugees out of the country.
Up to 2,000 refugee children could be taken into care. Immigration minister Beverley Hughes admitted the government has deliberately devised this new torture to be a 'deterrent'. This was just one of the callous attacks on refugees lined up for the Queen's Speech on Wednesday. New Labour is discussing singling out refugees for compulsory health tests before they enter Britain.
Blunkett also announced this week he wants to force Iraqi refugees to return to the war zone. Iraqis were the largest group applying for asylum in Britain last year. But even the US-led administration in Iraq is against the idea of dumping these people in the war-ravaged country.
