Strikes over Christmas on London Underground

Issue No. 2183

Two groups of workers on London Underground struck over the Christmas period. Around 120 workers employed by EDF Energy Powerlink struck for 28 hours from 8pm on 22 December and for 12 hours from 8pm on Boxing Day.

The company has offered the Unite and RMT members a pay rise of only around 1 percent – with productivity strings on top.

RMT members on the Willesden Green group of stations struck solidly on 23 December in support of their demand for the reinstatement of their colleague Colleen Johnston.

Meanwhile, RMT members in the Bakerloo Line branch and the Green Park group are balloting over the dismissal and demotion of workers.

The RMT general grades committee has also decided to accept London Underground Limited’s pay offer after members voted to strike over the issue.
