Britain's hypocrisy over Iran

Issue No. 2183

Foreign secretary David Miliband has posed as a friend of the movement, calling on the Iranian government to “respect human rights”.

The hypocrisy is incredible. Both Iraq and Afghanistan border on Iran, countries where Britain has committed war crimes to impose its will.

For many years Britain treated Iran as an informal part of its empire.

In the 1950s Iranians demanded more control, so the CIA and British inteligence orchestrated the coup that created the Shah’s dictatorship.

Even today Iran is threatened because it may be developing nuclear weapons—the kind of weapons Britain and the US continue to hoard.
