Bus workers vote on new pay offer

Issue No. 2184

First Bus workers in Worcester and Redditch have suspended two days of planned strike action while they ballot on a new pay offer.

The drivers, members of the Unite union, voted to strike as part of a wave of action at First against a national pay freeze.

First is now offering the Worcester and Redditch drivers a two-year deal with a 2.625 percent rise from April.

They have also thrown in £100 of shopping vouchers in an attempt to win workers round. But the deal would leave drivers with no pay rise for 2009—despite the company making huge profits last year.
