Over 100 people attended the first anniversary memorial meeting for Sri Lankan newspaper editor, Lasantha Wickrematunge in London on Friday of last week.

He was murdered in Colombo after criticising in print government policy over its murderous assault on the Tamil minority.

Speakers included Helena Kennedy, Ed Davey MP and international development minister Gareth Thomas MP. The minister faced requests to take a stronger stance against the Sri Lankan government.

Lasantha’s wife Sonali Samarasinghe sent a moving audio message. The meeting was organised by the Friends of Lasantha and the Tamil Legal Advocacy Project.
