The RMT transport union has called a rally and lobby of parliament on Wednesday 27 January against Network Rail’s plans to axe 1,500 maintenance jobs.
The union is also planning a national ballot of its rail maintenance staff for industrial action.
It has been reported that some of the transport problems caused by the last week’s severe weather conditions have been worsened by a shortage of crew to de-freeze tracks and points.
