Troops shoot demonstrators in Afghanistan

Troops killed eight demonstrators in Afghanistan’s Helmand province on 12 January.

The victims were among 2,000 people protesting against the desecration of the Koran by foreign troops.

There are conflicting reports as to whether it was Afghan or US troops responsible for the deaths.

US troops shot a man dead on Sunday in the area for approaching a checkpoint too quickly.
