Tamil exiles hold vote

Issue No. 2186

Tamils exiled from Sri Lanka are holding a referendum on self determination. Tamils in Britain will vote this weekend

Organisers have set up more than 60 polling stations around Britain.

The vote coincides with Sri Lanka’s presidential election, which took place on Tuesday 26 January.

Referendums have already been held in a number of countries where there is a large Sri Lankan Tamil community. Large majorities have voted for an independent state.
