Left coalition prepares for election

Issue No. 2186

The left is discussing the forces that will come together in an alternative to Labour at the general election.

The Socialist Workers Party (SWP) voted at its conference that it would seek to be part of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC).

Leading trade unionists Bob Crow of the RMT and Brian Caton from the POA back TUSC in a personal capacity. The Socialist Party and a number of RMT branches also support it.

A meeting this week was to discuss the SWP’s formal joining of the coalition.

Fifty people met in Portsmouth on Monday and unanimously endorsed RMT union activist Mick Tosh as the TUSC candidate for the Portsmouth North parliamentary seat.
