Leeds University workers vote to strike

Issue No. 2187

Lecturers at Leeds University have voted strongly for strike action over job cuts.

Over 63 percent voted for strikes and over 78 percent for action short of strikes. The turnout was a very high 66 percent.

Workers are facing 10 percent cuts to the university budget and compulsory redundancies.

During the ballot for action, more lecturers joined the UCU union.

The result shows the strength of feeling to fight job losses. The union should name the strike dates as soon as possible.
