Insolvency hits record high

The number of people declared insolvent has reached record levels.

The Insolvency Service found that 35,574 people declared themselves insolvent in England and Wales during the last three months of 2009­.

That a rise of 25 percent on a year earlier.

The increase in bankruptcy is accelerating.

Over 134,000 people were declared insolvent in 2009, a rise of 26 percent on 2008.


Public sector pay not higher

The bosses and the right love to lecture us about so-called “inflated” pay and benefits in the public sector.

But new evidence from researchers at the Institute for Fiscal Studies found that public sector workers are paid the same as the private sector once age and qualifications are taken into account.
