THE SERIAL liars in the US administration keep telling the world and an increasingly sceptical US public that “the security situation in Iraq is improving and everything is returning to normal”.
With suicide bombings, continuing guerrilla attacks and US soldiers being killed in action on an almost daily basis, it’s the kind of “improved security situation” one would not wish upon any country.
The truth is that the US is in deep trouble militarily.
This is just what critics of the unwise Iraq intervention warned about long ago. They warned about the violent chaos that would ensue following the US and Britain involving themselves in the internal affairs of another country.
The US imperialists are doomed to ignominious defeat, just as in Vietnam three decades ago. US military intelligence cannot even tell the true nature, composition and strength of the guerrilla forces confronting them. How can they prevail in the long term?
The implications for the security, safety and stability of the Middle East and the Western world are grim indeed. This madness, along with the unresolved Palestinian problem, will sow the seeds of generations of anti-Western hatred.
There never truly was a “war on terror”, which the US propagandists invented. But the serious threat from terrorism, originating from this debacle in Iraq, now exists as never before, thanks to George W Bush and Tony Blair.
