Israel’s deputy ambassador, Talya Lador-Fresher, cancelled her planned visit to Manchester University hours before she was due to speak to a group last Thursday.

Over 100 students came together to protest at her invitation and to show solidarity with the Palestinians, demanding an end to the siege of Gaza.

“The politics society decided to send the invitation in order to undermine our union’s strong history of campaigning for the Palestinians,” student Siobhan Brown told Socialist Worker.

“We had the longest student occupation for Gaza in 2009 and have consistently defended our twinning with An‑Najah university,” she said.
