NUT teachers' union left organises for elections

Elections are coming up for the national executive committee of the NUT teachers’ union.

Socialist Worker is backing candidates in the Socialist Teachers’ Alliance (STA) as well as several other left candidates.

“We are in a very difficult period where education funding is under massive attack,” said Nick Grant, an STA national executive member who is standing for re-election.

“We need to have people in the leadership of our union who have a different vision of what education should be about and who will fight the cuts.”

Ballot papers will be sent out on Wednesday of next week.

NUT to discuss SATs ballot

The NUT’s national executive committee is set to meet on Thursday of this week and will discuss the upcoming ballot for action over the hated Sats tests.

Anti-academy protest at privatisation conference

The Anti Academies Alliance has organised a protest outside the Spectator magazine’s “Schools Revolution” conference.

The event will showcase the Tories’ plans to extend privatisation in schools.
