Bosses are planning cuts to night cover that will put fire safety at risk across London. The scheme is revealed in leaked documents obtained by the FBU firefighters’ union.
The fire authority has insisted that proposed changes to firefighters’ shifts would not affect night cover.
But the documents say the plans would give “a capability to withdraw personnel from night shift” and “the removal of ten appliances [fire engines]”.
The document admits this would mean fewer fire engines running at night.
London FBU branches are currently voting on a motion calling for a ballot.
Firefighters in South Yorkshire are continuing to vote on whether to accept a deal that would see them work 11-hour shifts.
The ballot ends on Thursday of this week.
