Cleaner Alberto Durango fights for reinstatement

Issue No. 2192

The campaign for the reinstatement of sacked cleaner and Unite union activist Alberto Durango held a protest outside the UBS building in London last Friday.

Since UBS transferred its cleaning contract to Lancaster Cleaning Services, the new contractors have cut full-time cleaners daily wages by nearly 11 percent. They have demanded that the workers waive their rights to a maximum 48-hour week and increased workloads.

Alberto was sacked for refusing to submit to these charges and organising resistance to them.
