Civil service workers announce budget day strike

Issue No. 2192

The PCS civil service workers’ union has set a further strike day on Wednesday 24 March, budget day. This follows a successful two-day strike on Monday and Tuesday of this week, when over 200,000 workers walked out, severely hitting government services.

The PCS national executive has today decided to switch its strike date from Friday of next week to budget day. This will increase the pressure on the government to come to an agreement.

This is a crucial fight in defence of public services and jobs. New Labour wants to cut workers’ redundancy payments in preparation for massive job cuts after the general election.

Everyone needs to get behind the civil service workers’ fight, and any group of workers in dispute should co-ordinate strike dates with the PCS.
