Dirty Oil

Issue No. 2195

Dirty Oil goes deep behind the scenes into the strip-mined world of Alberta, Canada. Here the vast and toxic tar sands deposit supply the US with the majority of its oil.

The film takes us on a journey to both sides of the border to assess the irreversible toll this “black gold rush”, fuelled by America’s ever-growing need for oil, is taking on the planet.

It looks at the issue through the eyes of scientists, “big oil” officials, politicians and environmentalists.

It also shows the views of aboriginal citizens who are directly affected by what is the largest industrial project on the planet today.

Dirty Oil is in cinemas now
