Hundreds demonstrate to save 6 Music

Issue No. 2195

Listeners, musicians and presenters gathered outside the BBC’s Broadcasting House in London last Saturday to oppose the planned closure of BBC digital radio station 6 Music.

Around 700 people joined the protest, organised by 6 Music fans through a Facebook group which has amassed 170,000 members since the cuts were announced on 1 March.

The proposed cuts will see 6 Music and Asian Network axed if they go ahead.

In addition the BBC’s cuts threaten up to a quarter of online staff.

The protest was supported by the NUJ union, which launched its Save BBC campaign on Monday of last week.
