Bakery engineers demand more than crumbs

Some 54 engineers in the Unite union at Manor Bakeries in Barnsley struck for two days last week over pay.

The workers are demanding compensation in this year’s pay settlement for a pay freeze last year.

Pat Pepper from Unite said, “My members were the only workers in the plant not given a pay rise last time—it’s not fair.”

The workers have been on overtime ban since December and have escalated to strike action because management has refused to address the issue.
