Private rail firm Jarvis goes bust

Issue No. 2195

Rail privateer Jarvis has gone bust, putting more than 2,000 jobs at risk.

The company made profits from outsourced rail maintenance work but ran up huge debts on PFI contracts.

Jarvis was forced into administration last week after banks refused to lend it more cash.

The firm, which blamed the recession for its collapse, is chaired by former Conservative transport minister Steven Norris.
