Socialist Worker

Contempory Art Iraq

Issue No. 2196

This exhibition showcases works of modern art from Iraq made since the occupation began in 2003.

The pieces document life in Iraq now, the daily lives of ordinary people and the hardship of life after decades of war.

Installation, performance, video, painting and photography are put together from the works of 19 Iraqi artists.

The works presented deal with the search for identity, whether national or historical.

They address tradition, beliefs and other themes that shed light on the state of Iraq now.

Contempory Art Iraq is on at Cornerhouse, Manchester until 20 June. It is free
