Johnston Press journalists ballot for strike

Issue No. 2197

More than 550 journalists across 22 centres at Johnston Press are balloting for strike action.

The introduction of a new computer system, plus overnight printing of some evening titles, is being used to attack jobs and conditions.

Workers in Sheffield and Scarborough have already won ballots and those at Blackpool began an indefinite work to rule this week.

Julia Armstrong, of the journalists’ NUJ union at the Sheffield Star, said, “This national ballot is a historic move it’s the first we have seen in the union for 20 years”
