THE NATIONAL ballot of AUT union members continues into its second week against a background of the debate over fees for higher education. The AUT backed the NUS students' union in its opposition to fees, and the NUS is backing the AUT pay claim.
The fees decision this week will do nothing to stem the universities' financial crisis. An overwhelming vote in favour of industrial action is the best possible outcome in higher education at the present.
Many AUT members have yet to vote, and activists need to campaign for the biggest possible turnout, right up to the last minute.
