Crisis-hit Tube Lines faces strike

Issue No. 2200

RMT union members at the Tube Lines company on London Underground began balloting for strike action over jobs last week.

The crisis-ridden contractor, which is responsible for maintaining the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Northern lines, has not given the union assurances over job security.

Workers believe that it could go the same way as the Metronet consortium that was responsible for maintaining the rest of the tube network—which went bust in 2007.

The union should be moving swiftly to ballot all workers across the network against management’s plans to cut 800 jobs from ticket offices and platforms.
