TUSC tapping the anger against Labour

Issue No. 2200

Maxine Bowler stood for TUSC in the Brightside and Burngreave constituency in Sheffield. She won 1.7 percent of the vote.

David Henry, standing in Salford, won 1.8 percent. His campaign tapped into widespread anger at sitting Labour MP Hazel Blears, particularly over the MPs expenses scandal.

Maxine built upon her links with the Yemeni community and strengthened the struggle against job cuts. “Under New Labour the poor have got poorer,” she said.

“The bitterness at Labour’s betrayal is huge.”
