Pressure at Dimplex

Issue No. 2202

Workers are escalating industrial action at cooker maker Glen Dimplex in Prescot, Merseyside.

Last week the Community union launched a series of two-hour walkouts at the Stoney Lane site. Workers are protesting at the axing of the third instalment of an agreed three-year pay deal, which should have been implemented in April 2009.

Workers decided to step up their protests to day long stoppages involving two or three different departments each day.

Picketing of the site at weekends will also continue following an overtime ban.

Union branch secretary Lynda Bruce said, “The two-hour walkouts have been causing problems. Assembly is being affected and they are changing people’s shifts to cover lost hours.”

The union is investigating accusations that management are drafting in agency staff. They are also looking into the deduction of shift bonus payments in response to the two-hour walkouts.

“Members’ resolve is still strong,” said Bruce, “They are determined to carry on.”
