Ship workers’ wildcat strike

Issue No. 2203

OVER 100 workers at Cammell Laird ship repair yard in Birkenhead, Merseyside, walked out unofficially last week over plans to sack 180 workers.

The GMB and Unite unions have members on the site.

One worker said, “The union has put all sorts of proposals on the table but they have all been thrown off. The consultation is not a consultation.” The yard employs 700 workers.
