Hundreds of people are protesting this afternoon outside Downing Street against Israel’s murder of a number of peace activists on Monday morning. Israeli forces stormed the Freedom Flotilla international aid convoy to Gaza, killing more than ten people.

Protesters in London have blocked traffic from moving along Whitehall. People are continuing to join the demonstration.

Shahaz brought her two young children. “We cannot allow the world just to watch on while Palestinians and their supporters suffer at the hands of Israel,” she told Socialist Worker. “The ships were a symbol of what everyone wants to see—the breaking of the siege of Gaza and decent rights for Palestinian people.”

“Israel doesn’t want us to protest,” said Zahir, a college student from north London. “Our government doesn’t want us to speak out. But the can’t stop the fact that there is going to be an outpouring of anger when we see peaceful people being killed. It is right to be here and we won’t be silenced.”

The demonstrators are about to march from Whitehall to Kensington High Street for a protest outside the Israeli embassy.

The London protest is part of the wave of international action against Israel’s latest crime.
